Get a free preliminary Hong Kong trademark search opinion
Tell us your mark and what you sell. A SologoTM advisor screens the information you provide and emails an initial opinion, usually within 2 business days. If deeper review is appropriate, the advisor may recommend a separate report prepared by a local attorney.
The free opinion is informational and does not replace comprehensive clearance or legal advice. Registration cannot be guaranteed.
Comprehensive Trademark Risk Report
Prepared by a local attorney only after you approve the separate fee.
- Deeper review of earlier word and figurative marks when you provide the image
- Prior rights and earlier filings that could block your application
- Name-inherent risks — descriptiveness, generic terms, and marks the Registry commonly objects to
- Recommended classes and a suggested goods/services scope
- Written risk reasons and filing recommendations

Frequently asked questions
Is the preliminary search opinion really free?
Yes. A SologoTM advisor sends an initial opinion within 2 business days. No card is required and there is no obligation to file.
What does the optional deeper report cost?
A Comprehensive Trademark Risk Report prepared by a local Hong Kong attorney costs US$100. Your advisor may recommend it, and work starts only after you approve the separate fee.
What does the filing price cover?
The first-class and additional-class prices include their standard official application fees and local filing service. No additional standard official fee is charged for the selected classes. The optional attorney report is separate.
How and when do I pay?
The preliminary opinion is free. If you choose to file, our advisor confirms the scope and sends the service agreement and payment instructions by email. The standard price for the selected classes is paid once before filing.
Is the standard payment refunded if the application is refused?
No. If the application is ultimately not approved, the paid standard service price is not refunded. Registration decisions are made by the Hong Kong Registry and cannot be guaranteed.
Do I need a Hong Kong company or address?
You do not need a Hong Kong company. But every application must include an address for service in Hong Kong — a residential or business address, not a PO box, a virtual office, a "care of" address or an email address. We arrange it and file on your behalf.
How is Hong Kong different from Mainland China?
They are separate systems. A Chinese trademark does not cover Hong Kong, and a Hong Kong trademark does not cover Mainland China. Hong Kong has its own register, examination and fees.
How will I receive filing updates?
Our advisor contacts you by email when there is a filing update or we need more information from you.
How long does it take to register a trademark in Hong Kong?
If there are no deficiencies and no objections, the Registry states that the whole process can take as little as 6 months from receipt of the application to registration. Applications are also published for a 3-month opposition period. Actual timing depends on the Registry and is not guaranteed.
Can I claim priority from my existing application abroad?
Yes, in general — if you have filed in a Paris Convention country or a WTO member country, you can claim priority within 6 months of that first filing. The claim must be made in the application itself: it cannot be added afterwards by amendment.
Do I need to prove I use the mark in Hong Kong?
No — proof of use is not required to file. But a registration can be revoked if the mark is not genuinely used in Hong Kong for a continuous period of at least 3 years, so keep records of your use.
Can I change the application after filing?
No. Once filed, only minor clerical errors can be corrected. That is why we confirm the mark, classes and scope with you before filing.
How long does the registration last?
10 years from the date of registration, renewable for further 10-year periods.
What if the Registry objects to my mark?
If the requirements for registration are not met, the Registry issues an objection, and the applicant has 6 months to meet the requirements (a further 3-month extension may be granted). Responding to objections and hearings is outside our standard filing scope and is quoted in writing before any work starts.
Can everything be done in English?
Yes. English is an official language in Hong Kong and applications can be filed in English.
Can I register a mark that includes Chinese characters?
Yes. A trademark can be words, characters, a logo, or a combination.
