Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to register a trademark in South Korea?

The application stage is US$450 per class. Only after acceptance, the registration stage is US$400 per class. The successful-registration total is US$850 per class, including each additional class.

Are official fees included in both stages?

Yes. The application-stage price includes the standard official filing fee, including official item charges for up to 20 designated items per class. The post-acceptance price includes the standard official registration fee. No additional standard official fee is charged for that scope.

Why is the South Korea price paid in two stages?

You pay the application stage before filing. The registration-stage payment is requested only if the mark is accepted and the official registration fee becomes due. Both stage prices and the successful-registration total are disclosed before you file.

Is the preliminary search opinion free?

Yes. A SologoTM advisor screens the information you provide and usually sends an initial opinion within 2 business days. No card is required and there is no obligation to file.

What does a deeper trademark risk report cost?

If useful, your advisor may recommend a US$100 Comprehensive Trademark Risk Report prepared by a local Korean attorney. It is optional, billed separately and begins only with your approval.

How many goods or services are included per class?

Up to 20 designated items per class are included in our standard stage prices. Korean official fees increase after 10 items, and our stated price covers those charges through item 20. We quote any broader scope before work begins.

Do overseas applicants need a local representative?

Applicants without an address in South Korea generally need a local representative for trademark procedures. We coordinate the local filing and confirm any power of attorney before submission.

When can someone oppose a South Korea application?

After examination, an accepted application is published for a two-month opposition period. A contested response is outside the standard filing scope and is quoted before work starts.

How long does South Korea trademark registration take?

The Ministry of Intellectual Property describes examination as usually taking about five months from filing, but publication, opposition and registration follow. That is not a promised total time to registration.

What happens if the examiner objects?

Routine filing and updates are included. A substantive office-action response, appeal, opposition or other contested work is outside the standard scope and is quoted in writing before it starts.

How long does a South Korea trademark registration last?

A registered trademark lasts 10 years from registration and can be renewed. Renewal is outside the initial filing price.

What if the initial opinion raises concerns about my mark?

We explain the initial concerns and can discuss name or design changes before choosing what to file. Further attorney review or design work is scoped and quoted separately.
