What does the price cover?

How and when do I pay?
The risk report is free. If you choose to file after reviewing the report and quote, our advisor sends the service agreement and payment instructions by email.
Do I need a Hong Kong company or address?
You do not need a Hong Kong company. But every application must include an address for service in Hong Kong — a residential or business address, not a PO box, a virtual office, a "care of" address or an email address. We arrange it and file on your behalf.
How is Hong Kong different from Mainland China?
They are separate systems. A Chinese trademark does not cover Hong Kong, and a Hong Kong trademark does not cover Mainland China. Hong Kong has its own register, examination and fees.
How will I receive filing updates?

How long does it take to register a trademark in Hong Kong?
If there are no deficiencies and no objections, the Registry states that the whole process can take as little as 6 months from receipt of the application to registration. Applications are also published for a 3-month opposition period. Actual timing depends on the Registry and is not guaranteed.
Can I claim priority from my existing application abroad?
Yes, in general — if you have filed in a Paris Convention country or a WTO member country, you can claim priority within 6 months of that first filing. The claim must be made in the application itself: it cannot be added afterwards by amendment.
Do I need to prove I use the mark in Hong Kong?
No — proof of use is not required to file. But a registration can be revoked if the mark is not genuinely used in Hong Kong for a continuous period of at least 3 years, so keep records of your use.
Can I change the application after filing?
No. Once filed, only minor clerical errors can be corrected. That is why we confirm the mark, classes and scope with you before filing.
How long does the registration last?
10 years from the date of registration, renewable for further 10-year periods.
What if the Registry objects to my mark?
If the requirements for registration are not met, the Registry issues an objection, and the applicant has 6 months to meet the requirements (a further 3-month extension may be granted). Responding to objections and hearings is outside our standard filing scope and is quoted in writing before any work starts.
Can everything be done in English?
Yes. English is an official language in Hong Kong and applications can be filed in English.
Can I register a mark that includes Chinese characters?
Yes. A trademark can be words, characters, a logo, or a combination.
