A SologoTM advisor screens your mark and explains the next step. A deeper local-attorney report is optional and separately priced.

Clear filing price

Standard filing prices are shown in USD and include the official filing fee. Optional attorney review and extra work are quoted separately.

Guidance from opinion to filing

We send the preliminary opinion by email, then confirm scope and price before coordinating local filing.

More than filing

When a mark raises concerns, we can consider naming and design options alongside the filing path.

Tell us your mark and what you sell. A SologoTM advisor screens the information you provide and emails an initial opinion, usually within 2 business days. If deeper review is appropriate, the advisor may recommend a separate report prepared by a local attorney.

Comprehensive Trademark Risk Report

Prepared by a local attorney only after you approve the separate fee.

  • Deeper review of earlier word and figurative marks when you provide the image

  • Name-inherent risks — descriptiveness, generic terms, and marks CNIPA commonly refuses
  • Recommended filing classes and a suggested goods/services scope
  • Written risk reasons and filing recommendations

The free opinion is informational and does not replace comprehensive clearance or legal advice. Registration cannot be guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I search a China trademark name online before filing?

Yes. SologoTM China Prior Trademark Name Search screens earlier text-name records. It does not assess logo artwork or decide registrability. You can then request a free preliminary opinion; deeper local-attorney review is optional and paid.

Is the preliminary search opinion really free?

Yes. A SologoTM advisor sends an initial opinion within 2 business days. No card is required and there is no obligation to file.

What does the optional deeper report cost?

A Comprehensive Trademark Risk Report prepared by a local Chinese attorney costs US$100. Your advisor may recommend it, and work starts only after you approve the separate fee.

What does the filing price cover?

The first-class and additional-class prices include their standard official filing fees and local filing service. No additional standard official fee is charged for the selected classes. The optional attorney report is separate.

How and when do I pay?

The preliminary opinion is free. If you choose to file, our advisor confirms the scope and sends the service agreement and payment instructions by email. The standard price for the selected classes is paid once before filing.

Is the standard payment refunded if the application is refused?

No. If the application is ultimately not approved, the paid standard service price is not refunded. Registration decisions are made by CNIPA and cannot be guaranteed.

I already have a US trademark. Am I protected in China?

No. Trademark rights are territorial. A US or EU registration does not protect you in China, and China grants rights on a first-to-file basis.

What if my brand name is already registered in China?

The preliminary opinion flags relevant findings from the initial screening. Your advisor can discuss backup names and whether a deeper attorney report would help before filing.

What if CNIPA objects or refuses the application?

Standard filing covers preparing and filing. Office actions, refusal review and oppositions are outside the standard scope and are quoted in writing before any work starts.

How will I receive filing updates?

Our advisor contacts you by email when there is a filing update or we need more information from you.

How do foreign applicants file a trademark in China?

If you are not based in China, you cannot file directly: the law requires a foreign applicant to entrust a trademark agency established in accordance with law. We act as your single point of contact and the application is filed through that agency.

Can I claim priority from my existing application abroad?

Possibly. If you have already filed the same mark in another country, foreign priority can generally be claimed within 6 months of that first filing. Priority must be declared when the application is filed, and supporting documents submitted by the deadline — tell us before we file.

What documents do I need to provide?

Applicant details, a copy of your business registration or identity document, the brand name and any Chinese version, the classes and goods/services, a specimen if the mark includes a logo or stylised text, and a signed power of attorney — we send you a pre-filled copy.

Do I need to register a Chinese version of my brand name?

It depends on how you use the brand. A Chinese registration does not automatically give you separate rights in the pinyin or Latin version. If you sell under a Chinese name, your advisor can discuss whether a separate filing is appropriate.

Should I file the mark in colour or in black and white?

Filing a black and white specimen without claiming colour usually gives broader flexibility; filing a colour specimen generally ties protection to that colour. We confirm the approach with you before filing.

How are the classes and the goods or services decided?

China requires goods and services to be filed by class, based on the Nice-based classification. Your advisor recommends classes and a suggested scope; the final scope is confirmed with you before filing.

Do I need to prove I use the mark in China?

No — proof of use is not required to file. But a registration can be revoked if the mark is not used in China for three consecutive years, so keep records of your use.

Can everything be done in English?

We communicate with you in English about the report, quote, agreement and filing updates. The application itself is filed in Chinese by the agency.

How long does it take to register a trademark in China?

CNIPA must complete examination within 9 months of receiving the application. If the application is approved, it is published for a third-party opposition period (currently 3 months) before registration. Actual timing depends on CNIPA and is not guaranteed.
